![]() ReviewsLos angeles preview eventApril 2-5, 2009 at the Electric Lodge Preview performance weekend included four evening performances including several sold out shows. Sunday was so full that an additional row of seats had to be added to accomodate the turn out! To celebrate the opening of the show, we hosted a ball, complete with waltz lessons and refreshments. Absinthe and Austrian wine, pastries, and finger sandwiches were served before, during, and after the show, and guests were invited to dress in creative ball attire to complete the experience of travelling through the ages. The celebration event was as well received as the show itself.
Spectator Reviews: theguide.latimes.com The night was truly beautiful. A wonderful atmosphere was created and it emanating heavenly sounds as we approached. My husband loved the absinthe, but I dare not try. I loved how the Austrian food and wine paired with the show. The show itself has a strong female lead who dances with grace and extreme passion. I didn't always follow the story and think the show will benefit from seasoned actors. But overall we enjoyed ourselves. Astra von Berlifitzing is captivating with its talented dancers, uniqueness in choreography and especially the beautiful music that gives it such a great feel to the stage and the atmosphere. And the costumes and make were insanely awesome! Amazing and phenomenal performance from everyone!!!! This play drew me in from the very start to the last bow. Great love story expressed with little words, but with dance. I love that!
Wow- what a treat! I was blown away by the brilliant costumes and the dancing was amazing! The cast members all give 100% and are all top of the line professionals. The music was haunting and soul stirring. I was transported to another time and place for 90 minutes. Costumed assistants greet you while a fabulous harpist plays (an angel I think). Then there are delicious regional (Viennese) drinks and food and desserts!!! Then there was the fabulous show. It was just the right length (an hour or so) with 2 acts. Gorgeous cast (especially Astra who is very sensual and beautiful) and the narrator with his baritone voice and perfect enunciation. Much to my surprise the Waltz was very entertaining, sensual, with fabulous and colorful costumes. I think at the ball with all the proper ladies and gentlemen I spotted a couple of bawdy ladies too. It totally held my interest as it was of course historical with modern dance and sensibilities thrown in as well. Especially in the second act. Bravo to everyone involved.
Surprisingly good...I'm not a dance fan, but came with my girlfriend (who is) and was pretty impressed. Its just the right length and the cocktail hour in between is great--I had no idea absinthe was 100 proof.
OC Bellydancer Connection: www.themeetup.com The location was at the Electric Lodge in Venice - a Black Box Theatre... Charming and comfortable. Marilyn and I went on Friday the 3rd. The play was fabulous with our Sarah's solo veil performance a highlight of the evening. I will say I enjoyed the second act better then the first but all in all I would be happy to see it again... I do love local theatre productions. Bravo Sarah! and to everyone in the troop!
